Matthew Venezia is a partner in Watstein Terepka’s Los Angeles office. He specializes in class action, intellectual property, false advertising, and anti-discrimination litigation. He joins Watstein Terepka from Ellis George LLP, where he built a proven track record in both trial and appellate courts against some of the largest and most prestigious firms in the country.

Some examples include obtaining class certification and appointment as lead class counsel in a case challenging the United Network for Organ Sharing’s use of a race-based adjustment to kidney-function scores that made it harder for Black patients to receive transplants; obtaining dismissal with prejudice of unfair-competition claims brought by Nexus Pharmaceuticals on preemption grounds, affirmed by the Ninth Circuit in a published opinion; and obtaining reversal of summary judgment for a technology-company client with trademark claims against Dropbox, in a published Ninth Circuit opinion that significantly affected the availability of reverse-confusion claims.

Prior to joining Watstein Terepka, Venezia handled litigation matters at multiple prominent law firms and in-house at a leading national title-insurance company. His practice adds to the firm’s national litigation work, bringing deeper experience in anti-discrimination litigation, trademark and trade-secret disputes, and false-advertising matters.

Venezia earned his J.D. cum laude from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, where he served as a Senior Editor of the Washington University Law Review. He received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Missouri.
