Melanie Ng Silva
Complex commercial and consumer class-action litigator who builds the compliance programs that keep clients out of court. Trilingual, triple-major, relentless on detail.
Overview
Melanie Ng Silva is a member of Watstein Terepka’s complex commercial litigation and consumer class-action defense team. She works on a wide variety of commercial litigation matters and defends companies against putative class actions involving state and federal statutes, including the TCPA, CAN-SPAM, state privacy statutes, state unfair-competition statutes, and other state consumer statutes, with experience defending against serial litigants and fraudulent claimants.
Though Melanie helps clients in all stages of litigation, from case assessment through trial and appeals, she also enjoys working with clients to create and implement custom policies and procedures to help avoid litigation altogether — including large-scale programs that comply with telecommunications regulations, consumer-privacy laws, and other standards.
Prior to joining WT, Melanie worked in the Miami office of an international law firm, where she litigated complex civil cases to dismissal or minimal settlement. She attended the University of Miami School of Law on full scholarship, where she served on the International & Comparative Law Review, graduated cum laude, worked as a Dean’s Fellow, and interned as a student-attorney in the Human Rights Clinic; her clinical work was published in the Cardozo Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College, magna cum laude, with majors in International Business, Economics, and Spanish. Melanie speaks Spanish proficiently and continues to run competitively.
